2008 AFTER PROM GRAND FINALE EVENT

Below are links to documents and forms for the After Prom Grand Finale Event:

Prom night has historically been a time when teenagers risk their lives and those of others by mixing driving with drinking and drugging.  After Prom Parties are an excellent alternative to this dangerous partying, and area schools are planning these school sanctioned parties for their students.  Parents and concerned community members provide chaperoned parties where good music, food, entertainment, and fun flow freely.  In order to ensure that the students remain alcohol and drug-free while having a great time partying with their friends, prizes are offered to students who attend the parties and stay for the duration of the prom night.

RAYSAC (The Roanoke Area Youth Substance Abuse Coalition) has coordinated and co-sponsored the After Prom Grand Finale Event for the last eighteen years.  The Grand Finale Event is to recognize those students who participate in their school's after prom parties.  This year the Grand Finale Event offers a 2008 Hyundai Elantra (donated by First Team Auto Mall and Hyundai Motor America) as the grand prize along with 2 mountain bicycles (donated by Roanoke Wreck Repair) and other quality prizes such as electronic personal organizers, telephone answering machines and boom boxes.  Only students still present at the end of their After Prom Party are eligible to win the grand prize and other prizes.  This is an additional incentive to remain drug and alcohol free for the entire prom night.  Four juniors or seniors will be chosen from those students remaining to the end of their party along with 4 alternates.  The 4 students will then be invited to attend the Grand Finale on June 8, 2008 at Valley View Mall.  There they will play some "wacky Olympic" games and be given a key to try for the vehicle.

Those schools sponsoring an After Prom Party may wish to participate in the Grand Finale Event.  In doing so, a school representative must attend 2 meetings held between the months of March and May and help with the organizing of the event and making sure their respective, eligible students are in attendance for the Grand Finale Event.
